Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue is an all-hazards fire department serving the unincorporated areas of Washoe County, Nevada. Originally established in 1972 as the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District, it has evolved from a largely volunteer organization into a modern, career department providing comprehensive emergency services across a geographically diverse region.
The department currently operates 10 fire stations strategically located throughout its response area, allowing it to effectively cover a mix of urban interface, suburban neighborhoods, and vast rural and wildland environments. This broad coverage area presents unique challenges, including long response distances, varied terrain, and a high risk of wildland fires.
Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue provides a full range of services, including fire suppression, advanced life support (paramedic), technical rescue, hazardous materials response, and wildland firefighting. The department plays a critical role in regional emergency response, frequently working in coordination with neighboring agencies on large-scale incidents and mutual aid responses.
In addition to emergency operations, the agency emphasizes fire prevention, public education, and community risk reduction programs aimed at improving safety and resilience throughout the community.
