Let me start off by saying we catch a lot of fire (some of the most fire calls in our state) however like a majority of the fire service the politics and useless garbage we have to deal with is ridiculous the whole command staff has twice retired and came back to milk the retirement system while almost the entire shift side of the department qualifies for food stamps.

The camaraderie is great but again the admin and command staff with the exception of maybe 2 guys don’t know what it’s like to really be a fireman anymore. You arent allowed any R&R even after all station duties are done including training you will be doing busy work like scraping cracks in the sidewalks or scrubbing clean floor tiles for hours until the command staff go home. They wonder why we have staffing issues but it’s because of the out of touch and nonsensical command staff who make sure we do the most unrelated to firefighting and training imaginable on a daily basis.
