Overview
The Strongsville Fire Department, also known as Strongsville Department of Fire and Emergency Services serves the city of Strongsville, Ohio. The department provides fire suppression, rescue, prevention and emergency medical services to Strongsville’s 45,000 residents. Established in 1922 and operating as a volunteer department until 1971 when it was transitioned into a full-time department. The department consists of 68 personnel, comprised of 45 Firefighter/Paramedics, 12 Lieutenants, 3 Captains, 2 assistant fire marshals, 1 fire marshal, 1 administrative lieutenant and captain, 2 assistant chiefs and 1 fire chief. The current Fire Chief is Jack Draves who was promoted to the position in 2015 following the retirement of Jeff Branic.
The department covers 25 square miles, operating out of 4 fire stations spread across the cities 4 wards. All fire stations are staffed with a minimum three personnel comprised of 1 lieutenant and 2 fire medics. Fire Station 1, located at 11927 Webster road serves the cities first ward. The two and a half bay station contains Ladder 1, a 2021 Sutphen 100′ Midmount Tower, Medic 1, a 2024 Lifeline Freightliner M2 ambulance and the Ohio Region 2 Urban Search and Rescue truck and trailer. Fire Station 2, located at 15939 Drake Road, serves the cities second ward. The 1 and a half bay station is equipped with Engine 2, a 2016 Sutphen pumper and Medic 2, a 2020 Braun Freightliner M2 ambulance. Fire Station 3, located at 22000 Albion Road serves the cities third ward. The 2 bay station is equipped with Engine 3, a 2016 Sutphen pumper, Medic 3, a 2020 Braun Freightliner M2 ambulance, along with a reserve pumper and two reserve ambulances. Fire Station 4, located at 17000 Prospect Road serves the cities fourth ward and also serves as the departments headquarters. The 5 and a half bay station is equipped with Ladder 4, a 2004 E-One Cyclone 75′ Rear mount Aerial, Engine 4, a 2007 E-One Cyclone pumper, Medic 4, a 2024 Lifeline Freightliner M2 Ambulance, Medic 5, a 2017 Braun Freightliner M2 Ambulance, Car 4, a 2023 F-150 which is the shift commanders vehicle, Engine 5, a 2024 Supthen Monarch which is not yet in service, the station also holds numerous reserve fire apparatus and ambulances, along with SERT HazMat 1, a regional asset. Station 4 is staffed with a minimum of 4 personnel, 1 captain who is the shift commander, 1 lieutenant and 2 fire medics, but often has two full crews that are able to staff multiple trucks.
