The Spotsylvania County Department of Fire, Rescue & Emergency Management (often referred to as Spotsylvania Fire & Rescue) provides comprehensive fire protection, emergency medical services, and disaster management for the citizens and visitors of Spotsylvania County, Virginia. The department operates as a combination system, integrating both career and volunteer personnel to ensure continuous 24/7 coverage across the county’s urban, suburban, and rural communities.
Spotsylvania County encompasses approximately 407 square miles and serves a population of more than 145,000 residents. The department responds to over 22,000 emergency incidents annually, delivering both fire suppression and advanced life support (ALS) emergency medical care.

Personnel and Structure
The department employs roughly 270 full-time personnel and partners with more than 150 active volunteers. Staff members hold state and national certifications in firefighting, emergency medical services, and specialized rescue disciplines. Over 100 members are certified to provide Advanced Life Support (ALS) care.
Leadership and operational oversight are divided among two Battalion Chiefs, supported by EMS supervisors, division officers, and company officers assigned to stations throughout the county.
