The Live Oak Fire Department (LOFD) in Live Oak, Texas, is a professional, career-staffed department that provides fire suppression, rescue, EMS assistance, and fire prevention services from its main station at 8001 Shin Oak Drive. The department serves the city and is known for its community engagement, including station tours, and for its involvement in training events like the Dagum Texas Fire Conference
The Live Oak Fire Department is the kind of place you go if you believe you’re a perfect human being who has never done anything wrong. If you want to train from 8 to 6 with no breaks every day—because there’s little call volume—this is your place. And God forbid you drink “too much water” in July in Texas. The pay is good for Texas, but it’s not worth the headache of dealing with the huge egos on the crews. If this department had more than one fire a year, they might be able to back up those egos. They’re always hiring because of turnover, despite offering good pay and operating out of just one station.
