Kingston Fire Department is firmly stuck in the mid-90s. Scheduling is archaic, handled with triplicate paperwork and MS Excel. Good luck seeing who you’re working with or taking time off from home. The department runs out of 3 crumbling stations. Every fire apparatus and ambulance is in desperate need of maintenance. Part of the good ol’ boys club? You’ll have no problems. Question why everything is broken and you’re on your own. The Chief is a petty and vindictive bully. The Chief operates with no regard to the union contract. The union president lets him because he hopes it will help him get promoted. On the positive side, if you score well on the test and have a pulse you’ll get hired. If you’re a paramedic and score well they’ll promise you the world. There are no hiring standards. Really. Fat? That’s ok. Unable to pass a background check? Also ok. Plenty of mandatory OT if you prefer not to spend time outside work. 24/72 Schedule is pretty good so its not all bad.
