The department serves approximately 6,250 residents within Keene city limits, and under contract with Johnson County Emergency Services District, covers around 12,000 people across roughly 33 square miles.

Crews work on a 48-on/96-off rotating schedule, while volunteers follow a modified shift plan. The Fire Chief oversees operations on weekdays.
Responds to over 1,800 calls per year from a single station.

Automatic aid agreement with Alvarado Fire Department for structure fires; in return, Alvarado does the same.
Mutual aid partnerships exist with Briaroaks, Cleburne, Joshua, Liberty Chapel VFDs, and CareFlite Ground ambulance, enhancing coverage throughout Johnson County.
