The Fort Saskatchewan Fire Department is a municipal emergency services department serving the City of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, and supporting community safety through emergency response, fire prevention, public education, and emergency preparedness.
The firefighters and staff working on the floor at Fort Saskatchewan Fire Department are amazing, hardworking, and dedicated people who genuinely care about their jobs and the community they serve. Unfortunately, the biggest issue is the leadership, particularly the DC’s management style. There is far too much micromanagement, firefighters being written up for what seem to be made up or unjustified reasons, and management attempting to sneak up on employees to catch them not working. The constant threats and disciplinary approach create a negative work environment where firefighters feel watched and targeted rather than trusted and supported. The leadership is extremely disappointing and does little to build morale, trust, or a positive workplace culture. Firefighters deserve leaders who support their crews, treat people fairly, and lead by example rather than relying on intimidation and threats. The people on the floor are what make this department great, but the leadership needs serious improvement.
