Overview
The Vineland Fire Department (VFD) serves the City of Vineland, New Jersey, providing comprehensive fire protection, emergency medical services, and public safety education to a community of over 60,000 residents across approximately 70 square miles. Established through the consolidation of multiple volunteer companies in 1952, the department continues to operate as a combination career and volunteer organization, blending professional readiness with community-driven service.
Today, the department operates from six fire stations strategically located throughout the city. Five are volunteer companies—Pioneer (No. 1), South Vineland (No. 2), North Vineland (No. 3), Main Avenue (No. 4), and Panther Road (No. 5)—supported by a full-time career company (No. 6) housed at the department’s new $20 million headquarters facility on North 4th Street. This state-of-the-art complex serves as the operational, administrative, and training hub for all fire and EMS personnel.
The department’s career division maintains 24/7 coverage, while volunteer members supplement daily operations, respond to major incidents, and staff specialized apparatus. Together, they handle an extensive range of emergencies—including structural fires, vehicle extrications, hazardous materials incidents, and large-scale industrial or agricultural fires common to the region.
In addition to fire suppression, the VFD’s Emergency Medical Services Division provides Advanced Life Support (ALS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) coverage, operating three full-time ambulances and a peak-hour unit to meet growing demand. The EMS division has been recognized by the State of New Jersey as a “Public Provider of the Year” and continues to exceed state standards in training and response capability.
The department’s leadership places strong emphasis on training, prevention, and community engagement. Fire prevention programs, school outreach, and safety inspections are integral parts of its mission. Recent investments—such as the new headquarters, modern apparatus (including the 2022 Pierce Enforcer Ladder 6), and updated communications systems—demonstrate the city’s commitment to maintaining a progressive, well-equipped fire service.
From its founding roots in volunteerism to its modern, integrated structure, the Vineland Fire Department stands as a model of dedication, teamwork, and public service—protecting life, property, and the environment with professionalism.

Administration ignores issues until they become bigger problems. Administration is rolling around in unmarked vehicles (the chiefs). Our apperatus are falling apart, but hey the chiefs have new trucks so who cares. Department morale is in the toilet. This department is ran by politics. Want to be in a division? Better know someone. Want a promotion? Better know someone. We run a 24/48 which anyone with a brain knows is a terrible schedule. Overall there is super poor leadership, unhappy firefighters, and brand new unmarked chief vehicles.
