Chief Clinton was hired in 2010 and was tasked with three main objectives:
—-Combining the fire department and the ambulance company. in 2011 Springville was dual role fire department changing their name to “Springville fire & Rescue”
—-Transitioning the running of the fire department from the Volunteer “Firefighter Association” to the Fire Chief, until 2010 the Firefighter Association (Volunteers) was responsible for the operation of the fire department including training and hiring practices.
——Develop professional standards into the day to day operations of the fire dept.
During Chief Clinton’s tenure the city purchased 1 new fire Engine (E42), four Ambulances, and a 100’ Aerial Ladder (Quint).
Chief Clinton is ok. I considered him a friend and would stand up for him often only to see him stab multiple people in the back (figuratively of course) and ultimately he let me down too. He should have retired when the department went full time.
Chief Clinton is an okay chief, but it’s incredibly frustrating to watch or attend city council meetings and raise valid concerns, only to have him “correct” or misrepresent the facts. For example, when a firefighter pointed out the aging apparatus and the true cost and lead times for replacements, the chief dismissed the concern, in front of city council and insisted that new apparatus cost several hundred thousand dollars less than they actually do and that lead times are under a year — which simply isn’t accurate. Instances like this undermine efforts to secure the resources we genuinely need. He would have the city council and city manager believe all are peachy keen, when we are indeed imploding.
On top of that, when we’ve raised concerns about placing a fire engine out of service and unmanned to cross staff an ambulance for a medical call — despite that engine being a state-certified paramedic engine — he’s brushed it off, telling us on more than one occasion that it’s “just life.” Our citizens and visitors do not deserve an unmanned fire engine that will not be responding immediately when their homes catch fire.
