A bustling Midwest department, near one of the largest air force bases. Covers the city of Fairborn, wright state university, and Bath township. 4 stations, 3 engine, ladder, and ambulances at 3 of the stations. Approximately 8000 calls for service a year.
An incredibly dysfunctional department. Toxic leaders, toxic line firefighters. Massive amounts of turnover, losing almost 20% of the departments firefighters within 2 years. The city is involved in a prolonged labor dispute with the union over pay raise issues, in which the union misled members and the city neglected to even honor agreed upon material. The favoritism is rampant, with many probationary members being released for being disliked. Good members are being driven out, and bad ones being promoted depending on who is liked by admin. Corrosive toxic culture, unlimited mandatory overtime! You will be forced to work hundreds of extra hours. But don’t worry, they’re fixing it by hiring non and under certified people. New people get hung out to dry without adequate training, and experience is ridiculed “it’s not the fairborn way”. I wouldn’t recommend my worst enemy to apply here.
