The South Fulton Fire Rescue Department is a full-service, all-hazards emergency response agency serving the City of South Fulton. Established when the city assumed fire services from Fulton County in 2018, the department protects approximately 100 square miles and provides fire suppression, emergency medical services (EMS), hazardous materials response, technical rescue, fire prevention, fire investigations, inspections, and community risk reduction programs. The department operates from nine fire stations throughout the city and is staffed by more than 220 sworn firefighters and EMS personnel, along with civilian support staff. The agency is led by Fire Chief Chad Jones.
The leadership is mediocre at best. If you aren’t in with the “clique” good luck getting anywhere. If you are a “yes” man then they’ll love you. There is constant threats of disciplinary actions and currently members are not allowed to take discretionary leave because sick leave is high. Imagine that. They will mando members for up to 4 hours because of their poor staffing. Overtime is only given if you work city events. The deputy chief, Jerome Byrd doesn’t care what anyone thinks. The assistant chief of operations Glenn Washington is has no idea how to be a leader due to his spineless tendencies. The Fire Marshall couldn’t determine the c&o of a lit cigarette. Staffing is always at a bare minimum and everyone is expected to do more with less. Apparatus are constantly OOS and never receive regular maintenance. Gear is terrible. Overall the place is terrible and it’s a surprise it can operate on a daily basis.
Chief Jones and Byrd have created an oppressive fear-driven culture reminiscent of a Soviet-era regime. The department operates through intimidation and punishment. The morbidly obese Turman and Hughes working within Internal Affairs are used as a personal KGB conducting questionable investigations against employees who fall out of favor with leadership.
Employees are subjected to aggressive tactics including being pressured to sign documents relinquishing all their rights under the threat of termination. As a result staff members constantly look over their shoulders. Trust and morale is at an all-time low.
The chiefs have repeatedly demonstrated that protecting their own financial interests takes priority over both employees and citizens. Leadership appears more focused on finding new ways to increase charges on residents, scamming the employees out of contractually obligated money / federally gifted funds and manipulating call statistics to make it seem as though the department is handling more calls than it actually is.
Good luck to anyone considering a career here. The employees and citizens deserve far better.

I don’t want to write a long paragraph, so I will just make a list.
1:They never paid us our COVID pay in 2020. No one knows where is went.
2: We had to go to arbitration to receive money that was agreed on .
3: We have multiple engines with 200k miles and held together with duct tape, and these are front line.
4: Our Cheif feels like a resume builder, and no connection to the department what so ever.
5:Multiple people fill in ,every single shift , and swap stations multiple times a shift
6: very minimum effort to show appreciation to staff.
You will learn how to be a firefighter, and decent pay , no other perks , what so ever.
