Overview
The Hurst Fire / EMS Department serves the city of Hurst, Texas, providing fire suppression, rescue, emergency medical services, fire prevention, inspections, investigations, and public education. The department staffs three shifts around the clock, each with a shift commander, captains, driver engineers, and firefighter/paramedics. Their resources include two engines, a quint aerial truck, and two advanced life support ambulances per shift. The department operates out of three fire stations: Station 1 on Precinct Line Road, Station 2 on Pipeline Road, and Station 3 on Holloway Court. Each station typically houses three to four firefighter/paramedics, apparatus operators, and line officers. Together they respond to an average of about 5,500 calls per year, with roughly two-thirds being medical emergencies.
The department has a long history, starting as a volunteer organization in the early 1950s and growing into a modern, full civil service department by the late 1960s. Today, it is equipped with state-of-the-art apparatus including 2 engines, 1 ladder truck, and 2 ALS medic units, all designed to handle the wide range of emergencies faced by the community. In addition to firefighting and EMS, Hurst Fire / EMS provides specialized rescue services such as high-angle, trench, and swift-water rescue, as well as fire prevention programs and public education.
Financially, the department represents a significant portion of the city’s operating budget. In recent years, its annual budget has been around $7.8 million, with the majority dedicated to personnel services. Additional funds are used for equipment, maintenance, and training, ensuring that the department remains capable of meeting the city’s emergency needs. A separate grant fund supports programs like smoke detector distribution and technology upgrades, further enhancing safety for the citizens

1 Reviews on “Hurst Fire Department”
Hurst FD is desperately needing a change in administrative staff both in the department and the city. The morale of the department is terrible due to the lack of staff and difficulty getting new recruits. With the population boom in the DFW area, Hurst has failed to keep up with pay and benefits other surrounding cities offer. This has added to the lack of qualified applicants to fill open vacancies.
