The Pea Ridge Fire Department is a great place to work if you are looking for higher pay in the NWA area.
Other then that, it’s a struggle to have a voice or an opinion. If you are aren’t in the “clique”, good luck moving up or feeling secure in your job.
The admin assistant (secretary) is more referred to as the “deputy chief”, and she will put a target on your back if you disagree with her opinion or believe that something is wrong or incorrect on an operation level, due to the fact that her husband is a Luitenent on the department. Multiple people have been fired because of what she has to say over the opinion of the guys that they work with.
Equipment is sub-par at best, running out of 20+ year old rigs and no upgrade in sight, other then a promise. Promises have been made, but the equipment isn’t there for the largest growing city in the NWA area/State of Arkansas. City council has been spoken to about how well the department is doing, but the morale and department are suffering.
Communication from the Chief of operation is in the trash. The Admin Assistant has admitted to having access to the Chief’s emails/communication to the line folks and officers, along with sending emails acting as the Chief, and being more in the loop than the Captains, as well as sending out operation issues/orders that the Chief won’t say to the Company officers or line personnel. We have a ladder truck, but it doesn’t go because its not in service except for special events.
The training division is a joke. There are very few that will go out and train, jeopardizing citizens lives because “we know what we are doing”, even if they haven’t trained on it or know what they are doing. “We have mutual aid for that”.
