Welcome to the Office of the State Fire Marshal website. It is an honor and privilege to serve as the Acting Maryland State Fire Marshal. As the selection process continues to appoint the next Maryland State Fire Marshal I remain committed to ensuring our office provides our stakeholders the highest level of service possible. It is an honor and privilege to work alongside the finest and most dedicated group of sworn and civilian employees in our industry.
Our agency provides comprehensive fire engineering, fire code enforcement, fire investigation, and bomb squad response throughout the State of Maryland and supports our fire service and law enforcement partners to prevent fires and explosions from occurring.
Please remember that “Fire is Everyone’s Fight”. The agency has provided outstanding service to Marylanders for over 130 years and during that time the agency has grown and developed into one of the finest in the nation. Being the oldest State Fire Marshal’s Office in our nation brings a tremendous amount of pride in our mission and service. As an agency, we will continue to move forward and embrace the many challenges that face us.
The Office of the State Fire Marshal remains committed to protecting life and property from the devastating effects of fire and explosions for all individuals who live work and visit the great State of Maryland.
Morale in the department under Mowbray is at an all time low. He promotes favoritism in the department and does not hold staff accountable if he likes them. If his command staff does what he like he favors them and if not he retaliates. He has no leadership qualities and should not be a chief in Law Enforcement. He understands code enforcement but lacks ability to manage a police agency.
Fails to support the mission of the agency, lacks leadership, and this person will run in the opposite direction when situations get difficult. This person continues to operate in the past and does not want to move forward like other agencies in the country.
