William Swann began his career with the Nashville Fire Department after serving in the U.S. Army. He worked his way up through various roles, including firefighter, training academy instructor, and Director of the Office of Emergency Management. He was later promoted to Deputy Director, becoming the first African American in that position. In 2017, after the retirement of Chief Ricky White, Swann was appointed interim chief and was officially named Director Chief in 2018. His rise through the ranks was notable, but his appointment to chief came with controversy, as questions were raised about his qualifications and whether he met the standard eligibility requirements for the position.
“Chief” (using the title as loosely as possible) Swann is not fit for this role. He cares nothing about his firefighters, will not stand up and back them up under any circumstances. Uses department issued vehicle as a grocery getter outside the county and also just cruises around town on his off hours running errands. The only reason he has the “qualifications” in his name is from other shady people in the dept did the work for him… and as a reward those people were promoted to upper command all the while not being fit to lead an ant colony. This department and administration is a complete joke. They waste money on things that should never be bought. There needs to be a complete and thorough investigation into this “leadership”
