The Middleburg Heights Fire Department was officially founded in 1932 as a volunteer force, it became full time in 1945, with its current station built in 1956 and added onto in 1991. Middleburg Heights is a suburban city in Southwestern Cuyahoga County, the department serves 15,000 residents, covers 8 square miles and runs 4,000 calls in a year. The department is comprised of 26 full-time members, 18 Firefighter/Paramedics, 3 Captains, 3 Lieutenants, 1 Assistant Chief and the Fire Chief, each shift is comprised of a captain, lieutenant and 6 fire medics, with there being 6 personnel on duty in the station at any given time. The department’s current Fire Chief is Briant Galgas who has served in the role for nearly 15 years.

The department operates out of a single fire station located at 15800 Bagley Road. The station is staffed with a minimum of 6, being divided into two crews of 3 each. The station has four full bays, a full administrative wing and living quarters, the newer half of the station has slightly longer apparatus bays. The station is equipped with numerous apparatus, including 5 ambulances, numerous staff vehicles and 4 fire apparatus. These include two brand new 2024 Lifeline Freightliner M2 Crew-cab medics, a 2003 Freightliner M2 ambulance, a 2011 Ford F-650 Braun ambulance and a 2014 Ford F-650 Braun ambulance. The fire vehicles include a 2021 Sutphen 75′ Midmount Aerial Quint, a 2008 Pierce Velocity pumper, a 2000 Horton rescue truck and a 1999 American LaFrance 102′ Rear mount Tower. Typically on a shift, one crew of 3 will be assigned on the first out medic, with the second crew of 3 assigned to the ladder (quint). If the medic is out and a second medical call comes through, that ladder crew will jump on a reserve and respond. Both of these crews are able to cross-staff any apparatus that is needed for any circumstance, fully dependent on what is actually happening.
