AFD has an exceedingly poor reputation in the area. Multiple recruits have had to get taken to the hospital, with many being diagnosed with Rhabdomyolysis after the instructors make them walk up a 25-Story building multiple times in full gear in order to “make sure they really want to be an Aurora Fireman.” One recruit recently passed away as a result of the incessant physical demands placed on them, and it was largely brushed under the rug by administration. Countless younger members have shared similar experiences, and their lack of professionalism both to ER staff and fellow paramedics is apparent when interacting with them at the hospital. AFD has a bullying culture, and a serious overhaul is needed from the top down.
