Colorado Springs Fire Department offers core services including structural and wildland firefighting, ALS Paramedic equipped engines, BLS trucks, and technical rescue. CSFD operates 25 Stations with 25 Engines, 6 Trucks, 1 Heavy, 2 Type 3 wildland engines as well as brush trucks. While CSFD is Colorado Spring’s primary 911 ALS provider they do not transport currently, opting to work with AMR for transport services. CSFD also operates community medicine “CMED” cars to respond to low acuity alarms.
CSFD is a awesome department to work for. I am a Fire Medic here and could not ask for a better environment to work in. We get great calls. Run ALS engines with non transport. Our leadership admin staff here take care of us and have been making big leaps in alarm response structure with tiered response and CMED that takes the weight off the engines.
Our truckies are dialed with lots of knowledge, mentorship and our nozzles are quick to get water on the fire.
We train hard here and fight a considerable amount of fire.
Our medicine is progressive as well. Last year we added whole blood and finger thoracostomy. The med division works hard to keep us sharp and supports our autonomy. Our Docs know us by name and care about making us better and giving us more tools.
The only hard part is our schedule. We work modified Kelly on,off,on,off,on – 4 days off. There have been a few attempts at 48/96 over the years but no changes yet.
Our Chiefs are awesome too. Chief Royal is a real firefighter’s Chief.
In short, I’m never leaving. CSFD is a great department
