To protect life and property from fire through strong prevention, public education, code enforcement and suppression programs and to establish the best rescue and pre-hospital care plan possible.
Waxahachie Fire-Rescue responds to fire emergencies within the city limits. The department has 89 uniformed personnel, 81 of which are assigned to Suppression Operations who work on a 48 hours on-duty, 96 hours off-duty schedule. These members are assigned to Station 1 (408 W. Main Street), Station 2 (1601 Cleaver Street), Station 3 (200 YMCA Drive), or Station 4 (850 S. I-35E). The minimum daily staffing is 20 members who operate 1 command vehicle, 2 truck companies, and 4 engine companies.
Waxahachie Fire-Rescue is the best in the area. One of the few departments remaining in the DFW area not running an ambulance, WFR prides itself in its medical abilities and knowledge while maintaining an aggressive fireman culture. The department continues to research, implement and train on new techniques, SOP/SOGs, technology, and data to stay on the forefront of the fire service. The administration may have hiccups with the frontline guys but maintains a high morale by listening and engaging with the shifts. WFR is consistently staying on top of wait times and necessities with apparatus and equipment. While the department seems to be constantly hiring, this is done for the future projects of more stations, more apparatus, and higher minimum staffing. The culture at Waxahachie is what true firemen hope for when looking for their forever department. This is the place to work.
