The Mapleton City Fire Department is an all-risk fire department, meaning our team is trained, equipped, and prepared to respond to a wide variety of emergencies. Daily staffing includes a Chief Officer, one engine with a full-time Captain, a part-time Firefighter Paramedic, and a part-time Firefighter AEMT. We also staff one ambulance with two paid, on-call Fire/EMS crew members. We page our paid-per-call volunteer crews as needed to staff additional equipment.
Mapleton is a quiet, low-call-volume fire department nestled at the base of the mountains in southern Utah County. It’s a tight-knit organization with a strong family atmosphere, excellent employees, and a clear focus on training and continuing education.
What really sets Mapleton apart is the people. The staff treat you like family. Thanks to the low call volume—usually only one or two calls per day—we have the unique opportunity to debrief thoroughly after each incident and dedicate real time to training and development.
For part-time firefighters, Mapleton is a perfect fit. Most days are slow-paced. After some basic rig checks and about an hour or two of training, you have the rest of the day to relax with your crew. It’s the ideal environment for those starting their careers in fire/EMS or for someone seeking a slower, more stable pace.
Mapleton Fire is a dream department in many ways—especially for those new to fire and EMS, or for anyone looking to slow down. The city is well-funded, so you’ll be working with some of the best gear and equipment available. If you can tune out the administrative dysfunction, the station life, people, and pace make it a truly enjoyable place to work.
Very good department, slower paced usually 2-4 calls per day. Great for newer people in fire and EMS they have a great program to help new people get started in this great field!!
Leadership & Administration
The leadership and administration in Mapleton have been nothing short of excellent. The Chief consistently credits successes to teamwork rather than his own efforts, demonstrating both humility and exceptional leadership. If you want to feel valued as an EMS or fire professional, this is truly the place to be.
Work Environment & Morale
Low morale has never been an issue here. Any negative reviews are, in my opinion, the exception rather than the norm. Mapleton is unique in the area for offering 24-hour volunteer shifts. The fact that personnel regularly sign up for these shifts—often earning as little as $1 per hour—and continue to show up speaks volumes about how enjoyable it is to work here.
Resources & Equipment
Mapleton consistently provides top-of-the-line equipment and actively works to stay ahead of the curve when it comes to retiring apparatus.
Staffing & Scheduling
Mapleton often errs on the side of overstaffing. For example, it’s not uncommon for ambulances to have four personnel on board. While not inherently negative, this, combined with a medic engine (also with four personnel) dispatched to every medical call, can lead to crowded scenes. The extra help is invaluable on critical calls, but it can feel excessive for alpha and bravo-level responses
