The Fosterburg Fire Protection District is located in Madison County, Illinois. We cover a response area of approximately 30 square miles and protect a population of about 5,000 persons.
We are a combination department and maintain full-time staffing at both stations. In addition to the career staff we currently have 10 volunteer Firefighters.
Overall a good department to work at. Great working relations with mutual aid companies.
The department is a non transport BLS service so that’s a plus.
One draw back would be it is a two station department with one on duty at each station so it can be boring at times but they are on 48/96 shift schedule so that is a huge bonus for me.
The pay is average but with a very strong contract that is very beneficial to the firefighters. Along with a full compliment of insurance benefits.
Worked here for 15 years. Overall been a great department that prioritizes training and mutual aid relationships. The department is very well equipped. The biggest downfall is the staffing and that is strictly due to district size and taxes received. With the budget they have they prioritize the members and training. Would recommend working here to others. Leadership has come along way in the recent years with the change of Chief and promotion of new line officers. The 48/96 schedule is always one of our biggest selling points for the area.
