Covering an area of approximately 520 square miles, PFD responds to a wide range of emergencies, including fire suppression, emergency medical services, hazardous materials incidents, technical rescues, and disaster response. The department is structured into multiple battalions, each overseeing several fire stations strategically located throughout the city to ensure prompt response times.
Overall i enjoy working for Phoenix. I dont mind the 24/48 schedule and I feel like in recent years with our new cheif we are heading the right direction again. Training and equipment are all getting better and it seems like they are making strides to put Phoenix back on top.
Best department I have ever worked for. Amazing caliber of firefighters. Has not adopted the tik tok culture (at least not yet!) Busy department, amazing equipment, and career opportunities. A 48/96 would be a nicer schedule. No complaints whatsoever! Very thankful for the opportunity to be a part of this amazing organization!
This organization undersells itself. It has the greatest membership, opportunities for upward mobility, and benefits. It’s easy to look at simple numbers like salary and call volume to start thinking it’s better somewhere else. It’s not. Phoenix is the pinnacle of the fire service – aggressive firefighting without unnecessary risk that you won’t make it home to your family. Heavy on training. Labor and management work together toward the single goal of improving things for the membership. It takes time to fix issues that come up in a department this size but they always get fixed. If you want to fight fire, make a good living, and meet some of the best people, then come on over. I’ve been here for 10 years and plan on staying another 22.

Great department to work for with endless opportunities. 48/96 would be better but 24/48 works
